My Story: The Pursuit of Life’s Ambitions
WRITTEN BY richscottMay 1st, 2025
At the heart of everything I’ve done is a simple idea: the pursuit of life’s ambitions. From my earliest jobs delivering papers and working on fishing boats, to launching my own company and now coaching leaders around the world, I’ve always been fascinated by the potential to become something more. That pursuit has shaped my entrepreneurial spirit and driven me to explore new opportunities, learn constantly, and help others do the same.
How I Became a Coach
I’ve always been fascinated by the potential to become something more. That curiosity shaped my entrepreneurial spirit early on. As a kid and young adult, I chased every opportunity I could — from paper delivery routes and summer painting businesses, to working on commercial fishing boats and in retail. Later, I found myself in the world of commercial equipment financing, where I first began to understand the dynamics of business growth and what it takes to succeed.
Each of those experiences taught me something different: the grit to get up early and deliver on commitments, the resourcefulness to create opportunities where none existed, and the resilience to keep moving forward even in tough conditions. Looking back, they all added up to something bigger — a passion for business, and for helping people realize they’re capable of far more than they think.
From Business Owner to Coach
In 2000, I launched my first company. It was exciting, challenging, and at times overwhelming. I quickly learned that running a business wasn’t just about skills or ideas — it was about clarity, focus, and the ability to handle the stress that comes with responsibility.
Over and over, I saw a common pattern: business owners had tremendous opportunities in front of them, but the weight of growth and decision-making often held them back. They wanted to move forward, but pressure and uncertainty made them feel stuck.
I realized I wanted to do more than just run a business. I wanted to help other business leaders find a way through the stress and into growth.
The Decision to Coach
That realization pushed me to seek more tools and knowledge. After completing the executive program at the Sauder School of Business at UBC, I knew I had the foundation to make a bigger difference. I didn’t just want to consult or hand out recommendations — I wanted to partner with business owners, uncover why things worked the way they did, and create practical strategies they could execute with confidence.
It was clear: it was time to become a business coach.
Creating My Coaching Business
In 2008, I founded Clarity Business Strategies Inc. with one mission: to help business owners reduce stress while growing their companies. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of coaching leaders in more than a dozen countries and receiving recognition along the way — but the real reward has been the progress I get to witness every day.
The Joy of Coaching
Coaching, for me, is more than a profession. It’s a calling. Every new client is a chance to unlock potential in a business and in the lives connected to it. Every ongoing client relationship is an opportunity to continue supporting growth, stability, and impact.
I light up when I see a client achieve something they once thought was out of reach. Those moments — the breakthroughs, the wins, the transformations — are what keep me excited, motivated, and grateful for the work I do.
Why a Personal Site?
Over the years, my work has branched into many directions. I’ve coached business owners, mentored new coaches, developed training programs, supported FocalPoint as an Area Developer, and shared my passion for biking through coaching and community involvement.
At times, people only see one piece of what I do — a coaching program here, a workshop there, or a biking adventure — without realizing it’s all connected. This personal site is my way of bringing those threads together.
It’s not just about business growth, or biking, or mentoring. It’s about how all of these pursuits reflect what I care about most: helping people grow, succeed, and enjoy the journey along the way.
This site is a home base where I can share the full picture — the professional, the personal, and the passions that keep me energized. My hope is that it helps you get to know me better, and makes it easier for us to connect — whether you’re a business leader, an aspiring coach, or someone who shares my love of riding.
Join Me in the Pursuit
At its core, this site is about more than my career. It’s about the pursuit of life’s ambitions — my own, and those of the people I’ve had the privilege to coach, mentor, and ride alongside.
This is my story, but the best part of my journey has always been walking alongside others. If you’d like to stay connected, here are a few ways:
- Subscribe for updates — I’ll share new articles, insights, and resources, along with stories and lessons from my own pursuits and those of others.
- Connect with me on LinkedIn — where I post ideas, conversations, and opportunities around business, coaching, and growth.
- Join me on Strava — if biking is your passion too, we can share the ride and the journey together.
Whichever path you choose, I’m grateful you’re here.
